For the upcoming year, Xiaomi plans to open a smartphone System-on-Chip (SoC) that will be listed as an important new creation in the Xiaomi technological process. This new SoC built using TSMC’s N4P process is one generation behind the state-of-the art N3E seen in the latest parts like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and MediaTek Dimensity 9400. The selection of the N4P node indicates that although the SoC may not be in the higher levels of performance rate, it will provide a reliable platform for Xiaomi’s future relevant gadgets.
As for performance, the new SoC is expected to achieve results comparable to, or at least the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that is now considered to belong to the and not the third generation at least. Such positioning indicates that Xiaomi’s next SoC will most likely target the mid- to high-end segment as opposed to competing with the latest flagship chips. The radical change in development of SoC, which Xiaomi planned before halting and continued in 2021, indicates the company’s continuous interest in developing its technological front.
There seems to be a place for the SoC that will support 5G connectivity provided by UNISOC, probably the T760 model. This decision is in line with Xiaomi’s plan to pursue the use of existing technology for connectivity, although this may prove to be cheaper and avoid potential hold-ups that may result from the development of an in-house modem.
Information about the exact CPU and GPU model is still sparse; however, it is likely that Xiaomi will use Arm’s IP for both CPU and GPU; potential options include a Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 in regards to the CPU cores. The GPU is also anticipated to be sourced from Arm’s lineup.
There is still doubt as to how this SoC will be incorporated into Xiaomi’s flagship products that are yet to be launched, such as the Xiaomi 15. However, from the current prediction of its performance, it will act as a viable option that enables and offers features in mid-range to high-end devices.
