Samsung Galaxy users may soon have a more convenient way to interact with Google’s Gemini AI. A recent teardown of the Google app suggests that Samsung might allow users to long-press the side button to launch Gemini, a move that could significantly improve the user experience. This potential feature could debut with the upcoming One UI 7 update.
As AndroidAuthority, the teardown shows new strings in the Google app meaning that a change is coming soon. Based on these strings that are more targeted to Samsung devices, it means that the users would be able to launch Gemini with the help of side button press. This addition aligns Samsung with the standard Android behavior, where pressing and holding the side button typically activates the default assistant service.
At present, Samsung devices force users to rely on Bixby as the default assistant, even if Google Assistant or Gemini is set as the preferred choice. While Samsung allows users to switch the side button’s action to the power-off menu, it does not yet offer the flexibility to launch Google’s AI services. This new feature could change that, offering users greater control and streamlining their interaction with voice assistants.
There’s a chance this feature could be part of One UI 7, which should be released soon. It might also be included in the setup process for the Galaxy S25 series, which is expected to come out in early 2025.
