Samsung Electronics has revised its smartphone production plans for 2025, with a notable increase in the production target for the Galaxy S25 series. The company aims to produce 229.4 million smartphones next year, slightly lower than the 237 million units initially projected. Despite the overall cut, the production of flagship models, particularly the Galaxy S25 series, will see a rise.
According to a report from Thelec, the planned production volume for 2025 includes 179.4 million units of in-house production and 49.9 million units through joint ventures. Of the in-house production, 60.1 million units will be flagship models, with the Galaxy S25 series accounting for around 37 million units, surpassing the 35 million-unit target for the Galaxy S24 series in 2024. This shift reflects Samsung’s strategy to place greater emphasis on its premium offerings amid a broader market slowdown.
In contrast, the production of foldable smartphones remains relatively modest. Samsung plans to produce about 7 million foldable devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Z Flip FE, and Z Fold 7, with a combined target of 6 million units. The market adoption by the company of foldable technology has proven a little challenging, and 2024’s sales have not been so impressive.
This could be attributed to the fact that next year’s overall production target has been lowered due to uncertainty that exists in the global smartphone market. Although Samsung is still dominating both premium and foldable categories, the company is conservative about the market’s performance in 2025.
This new strategy shift also emphasizes Samsung’s serious interest in enhancing its portfolio of flagships, namely through the Galaxy S25 family and a change in tact on what to do with the innovation categories like the foldables.
