OnePlus is reportedly working on a compact flagship smartphone, aiming to enter the growing market for smaller, premium devices. The new phone is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 6.3-inch 1.5K display, and a 50 MP main camera with Sony’s IMX906 sensor.
Set to join the Ace 5 series, the device is likely to be a mini or Pro mini model. It will have a simple, horizontal camera island design similar to Google’s Pixel phones, without a periscope zoom. The prototype is testing a short-focus in-display fingerprint sensor, with OnePlus still deciding whether to use an ultrasonic version.
This move follows the trend set by Apple, Google, and Xiaomi, all of which have released compact flagship phones around the 6.3-inch screen size. OnePlus aims to offer a high-performance device in a more manageable form, targeting users who prefer smaller phones without sacrificing premium features.
There’s no official release date yet, but it might be a few months before the new phone hits the market. With more people wanting smaller smartphones, OnePlus could be a strong contender in the high-end compact phone market. We’ll get more updates as they continue to develop the device.
