Nothing has officially launched the Open Beta for its OS 3.0 on the CMF Phone 1. Starting December 10, users can access the beta version, which introduces a variety of new features. However, the update comes with a significant caveat: users cannot roll back to stable builds, and installing the beta is done at their own risk.
The new OS version includes features like Shared Widgets, enabling users to display and interact with friends’ widgets on their home screen. A redesigned lock screen offers expanded customization, while the upgraded Smart Drawer uses AI to automatically organize apps into folders. The update also improves camera performance, enhancing launch speed and HDR scene processing.
Some of the other changes include a new look to the Quick Settings area, a better pop-up window view for multitasking, and a smart pick of applications which will facilitate the use of the most often used applications. Also, the update improves system performance, with improved recording speed of partial screen sharing in addition to including new animations for charging and fingerprint unlocking.
Despite these enhancements, the beta version is not without risks. Users are warned that no rollback option is available, meaning a switch back to the stable build is not currently possible. This makes the beta unsuitable for primary device users who rely on stability.
The Nothing team is eager to hear your thoughts as they continue to improve their OS. They promise to fix bugs and add more widget support in future updates. If you want to try the Open Beta, remember to back up your data because you might need to do a factory reset during the installation process.
