In the year 2022, if one has to spend at least $999 dollars to buy the new iPhone 14 Pro, then even within two years from now, the phone may not be able to run on iOS, version 18, at a fast pace. This sounds like a nightmare, particularly with Apple’s yearly software update on its flagship devices. But this nightmare might not be very far from real as we may all have thought it to be.
In this regard, Bloomberg has recently revealed that iOS 18 is to unveil some significant AI-designed functions that are to benefit Siri most significantly. As for the iPhone users, there might be a considerable price to pay. It should be noted that, as mentioned by Bloomberg’s reporter Mark Gurman, many devices will only receive these new AI functions in the iPhone 15 Pro or its descendants.
Most of these AI features will not come cheap since the level at which they operate are largely complex. AI processing is another area that will be offloaded to on-device AIDs, with the A17 Pro manufactured on TSMC’s 3nm process. It is exciting to see this with the NPU of the A17 Pro being twice as fast; it offers a peek into the future.
Again, like Samsung and Google, other competitive companies in mobile phones firstly introduced AI features in their latest models only but later on, they also started implementing it in the older models. This could be good news for users who prefer to use Android devices instead of Apple gadgets.
Siri for the first time will interrelate with apps on your phone almost like it’s an extension of the iOS 18. By dialling a number, the digital assistant will get notes for emails, perform various actions regarding emails and provide a summary of articles. Moreover, tapping this AI, it will identify what people are doing with the devices and, subsequently, engage Siri-controlled functions on its own.
In iOS 18, users will see the following AI-driven features: summarization of voice memos, notification digests, intelligent photo captions, and automatic replies to messages. Apple is currently focusing on processing data locally on devices; this is more secure, and it is fast.
iOS 18 is equipped with these splendid AI features. But if these features will be limited with the new iPhone only then it would be a major issue with regular users.
To conclude, the new AI features on iPhones shall be highly useful and improve user experience though there are elements of cost effective investments which the users might be required to make.
