Apple has started rolling out iOS 15, and alongside that, this week it also quietly added a new iOS charging feature for iPhones. The most useful of the bunch could be a new feature that tells you if you’re connected to a slow charger so your device charges as fast as possible.
This is especially useful for those with older charging cables and adapters. Since most iPhone users charge their devices overnight using old chargers that simply are not compatible with fast charging, these findings should come as no surprise. In iOS 18, when you navigate to the Battery section in the Settings app, an alert is now displayed if a slow charger is connected. And the battery graph shows a sluggish orange rather than the usual green. Not to mention it’s unclear just how slow a charger needs to be for the warning light to appear.
Charging efficiency has also been further optimized for iPhone 16 users. The iPhone 16 supports up to 45W wired charging in addition to the official 25W MagSafe charging provided by Apple, providing faster top-ups.

My third and final change is the range of different charging limits you can set. In their reasoning for limiting iPhones to an 80% charge, the company had said that consistently charging a battery to full has a negative effect on battery health. The latest changes in iOS 18 allow new limits of 85%, 90%, and 95%. These choices allow users to make the battery last longer and provide more control over how much they charge their phone. This is especially helpful for people that do not need a full 100% charge but will squeeze out more juice than the predetermined 80% cap.
While not the most publicly exciting of features, these charging updates in iOS 18 are all relatively minor—but they’re each thoughtful improvements that make a better experience for users and help prolong battery health.
