Apple’s decision to discontinue the older iPhone SE without offering a more affordable option could hurt its market share in emerging regions. Insider Mark Gurman pointed out that as the current iPhone SE inventory runs low, Apple overlooks the chance to attract new users by keeping the older model at a reduced price.
With the upcoming iPhone SE 4 expected to cost more, Apple could have used the older model to target budget-conscious consumers in markets where affordable smartphones are in high demand. Many users in developing countries opt for budget Chinese phones, but an affordable iPhone SE could have helped Apple grow its user base in these areas.
Apple’s high-end Vision Pro headset, priced at $3,499, failed to meet sales expectations, emphasizing the challenge of appealing to price-sensitive consumers. Keeping the older iPhone SE could have restored some goodwill in regions outside wealthier nations.
By discontinuing the previous model without an affordable alternative, Apple risks missing a key opportunity to expand its market presence.
