The most recent update for Google’s Pixel Smartphone’s added one of the major features to the Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL models. Although the Pixel 9 launch event included thermometer capability, a recent update added additional features to Google’s Thermometer app, which is now accessible for these devices.
Google’s Thermometer app, which was previously only available on the Pixel 8 Pro, has now been expanded to the new Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. Despite not being promoted as having an infrared thermometer, these new versions do support the app, which has been updated with a number of additional features. The update, v1.0.654975759, introduces an overlay that helps users line the sensor with objects more accurately.
Additionally, the app now provides visible feedback to users, informing them if an object is too small for measurement or if the sensor has to be moved closer for better accuracy. One of the most notable additions of this version is the option to add regularly measured things to the home screen, making it quicker and faster to remeasure items.

While the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL have not yet shipped, the update is now being sent out to Pixel 8 Pro customers and will soon be available for the new models. This action highlights Google’s continuous commitment to improving the user experience through incremental software upgrades, even if certain improvements were not first highlighted during the Pixel 9 launch event.
