Qualcomm is shaking things up with a new addition to their lineup called the Snapdragon 8s Elite. This chip is designed to offer a sweet spot between high performance and affordability. It’s expected to sit comfortably between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in terms of capabilities but won’t hit your wallet as hard as the flagship models.
According to the Digital Chat Station, this new chipset is codenamed SM8735. It’s even been spotted in the codebase of Xiaomi’s new HyperOS, suggesting that Qualcomm and Xiaomi might be working together on this one. Pretty exciting, right?
The Snapdragon 8s Elite is set to deliver performance levels between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It’s expected to offer a refined experience that prioritizes lower performance compared to flagship models, making it an ideal choice for manufacturers looking to offer high-end features at a more affordable price point.

First of all, among the not fully clear aspects, one of the most important is the core design. Qualcomm has earlier used Oryon cores in some of its previous chipset models, but it is still uncertain whether the 8s Elite model would incorporate these or depend instead on ARM cores that are employed on most other mobile chipsets.
Devices powered by the Snapdragon 8s Elite are expected to debut around April next year, with Xiaomi being a potential partner for its launch. The company may release a new device equipped with the chip, a 7000mAh battery, and 90W charging, continuing the successful trend of collaboration seen in previous releases, such as the Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro, which was the first to feature the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.
The speculation of Qualcomm planning to release the Snapdragon 8s Elite will definitely generate a lot of interest, especially in the sub-flagship segment, and investors will eager to see whether a new direction is going to be set for the smartphone market.
